Lifeguard/ Assistant Teacher
Ready to dive into summer fun while helping kids grow and shine? Wonderspring is looking for a Lifeguard or Lifeguard/Assistant Teacher to join our seasonal team at the Hartranft Center! This position starts part-time, supporting afterschool programming Monday through Friday from 3:30 – 5:00 PM. Once summer camp begins, the schedule shifts to full-time, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Aquatic programming runs May 23 through October 31, with summer camp operating June 30 through August 22. This role can be Lifeguard only, focusing on water safety and supervision, or a combined Lifeguard/Assistant Teacher role, where you'll also help lead hands-on camp activities that promote learning, creativity, and teamwork

What You’ll Get to Do (and Have Fun Doing!)
Aquatic Program Duties (4 hours per week):
- Supervise and ensure the safety of all children during scheduled swim sessions and aquatic fitness activities.
- Enforce water safety rules and emergency procedures at all times.
- Deliver basic water safety instruction and support children of varying swim abilities.
- Conduct daily checks of pool equipment and maintain cleanliness of the aquatic area.
- Respond quickly and effectively to any aquatic emergencies.
Summer Camp Duties:
- Support Lead Teachers in delivering weekly themed activities in arts, STEM, literacy, and outdoor play.
- Foster a positive, inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and social-emotional development.
- Assist in supervising group transitions, meals, field trips, and enrichment sessions.
- Model respectful, developmentally appropriate interactions and guide children through conflict resolution.
- Help maintain attendance records, incident reports, and behavior documentation.
Your Special Skills & Qualities
- High School Diploma or GED required; CDA preferred.
- Lifeguard Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross) is required.
- At least two years' experience in early childcare education (2,500 verified hours).
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date).
- Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings preferred.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in emergencies.
